Matt Ryan Calls it a Career

Former MVP and Falcons Legend Retires After 14 Seasons

Matt Ryan, the Most Decorated Quarterback in Atlanta Falcons History, Retires

Former Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has officially announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons. The 38-year-old quarterback made the announcement on Tuesday, April 18, 2024, four months after playing his last professional game in December 2022.

Ryan, who was born in Exton, Pennsylvania, and played college football at Boston College, was drafted by the Falcons with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He quickly became a star in Atlanta, leading the team to the NFC Championship Game in his second season and winning the NFL MVP award in 2016.

Ryan spent 10 seasons with the Falcons, setting numerous franchise records and helping to establish the team as one of the most successful in the NFL. He was traded to the Colts in 2022 but struggled in his lone season in Indianapolis.

Despite his disappointing end in Indianapolis, Ryan's legacy as one of the best quarterbacks of his generation remains intact. He is a four-time Pro Bowler, a two-time All-Pro selection, and the Falcons' all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and completions.
